<dc:description xml:lang="es">Sumario: The disorderly failure of an insurer or a group of insurers may pose risks to financial stability and to policyholders. Insurance undertakings provide important services to other actors in the financial system, policyholders and companies. Studies document that the insurance sector contribution to overall systemic risk has been increasing.1 Due to their interconnectedness, a failure of a large insurer or the simultaneous failure of several insurers, may have negative repercussions on other parts of the financial system. Equally, it is key to ensure that at the moment of failure the insurer continues to function as good as is possible in order to prevent policyholder detriment e.g. by continuing to pay out claims and pensions.</dc:description>
