<abstract displayLabel="Summary">In every modern insurance regulatory framework there is one common element: the own risk and solvency assessment (ORSA). Unusually for regulation, the ORSA is appreciated by insurers as much as their supervisors. Other elements of regulation, such as the solvency capital requirement and reporting, are often seen as a burden by insurers, but the ORSA represents the practical implementation of risk management that sits at the heart of the insurance business model and the regulation of the sector. </abstract>
