Sumario: The engin room temperature in steam turbien powered crude oil tankers can be very high in the tropics and particulary in the Arabian Gulf where many ships trade continuouly. To help eliminate the occurrence of heat stress a device has been developed to monitor deep body temperature rise by measuring ear canal temperature; it sounds a warning in the wearer's ear when a determined level is reached. The effects of external radiant heat on the sensor have also been assessed to determine the degree of thermal insulation required
