<dc:description xml:lang="es">Sumario: The aim of this study was accurately to quantify lifting and carrying work as well as the physical work load in two occupations with a high frequency of back disorders. With this basis it may be possible to shed light on the mechanisms underlying the occurrence of back injuries. A further aim was to study the effects of work organization and work station design on otherwise similar work tasks. Work load was studied for both women and men performing heavy manual handling in hospitals and warehouses.
