<abstract displayLabel="Summary">In this paper we describe an experiment in which three types of directional compatibility were examined. The results lead us to question the conventional wisdom concerning optimal control display movement relationships, and to advocate consideration of a type of directional compatibility which appears to account for performance independently of operator orientation</abstract>
