Sumario: Experts had thought tuberculosis was on its way to eradication, but since 1988, TB and new strains of drug-resistant TB that have emerged in at least 40 states are responsible for at least five deaths and hundreds of occupational exposures and infections. In the United States in 1993, 25,287 new cases of TB were reported.
