520  ‎$a‎The author of the LPC Laboratories outlines the test programme which is being carried out on six leading halon alternatives at the LPC's purpose-built rig in Borehamwood. The Montreal Protocol has effectively resulted in the cessation of the production of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) almost on a worldwide basis. There are, however, still a few countries such as China and India where as developing countries production is still permitted. Althought it is beyond the scope of this article to debate the soundness of the latter decision, it is hoped that the findings of this important research project will in fact rech and influence all countries which continue to select, specify and use halon extinguishants
