<abstract displayLabel="Summary">En 1998 habrá que decidir qué países entrarán a formar parte de la unión monetaria reducida. En el presente artículo se analizan las ventajas o inconvenientes de una unión de estas características partiendo de la teoría de las áreas monetarias óptimas. Seguidamente, se estudian diversas cuestiones de economía política del Tratado de Maastricht, finalizándosecon el análisis de varios escenarios alternativos del tamaño de la futura unión monetaria</abstract>
