      <subfield code="a">Occupational safety and health concerns in Eastern and Central Europe will improve only with stepped up efforts in three key areas: education and training, supplies and equipment, and policy support. Western countries must avoid misguided, though altruistic, donations of old or unwanted industrial equipment to the East. A Regional Environmental Center survey of some 100 companies in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia confirms that the demand for occupational safety and health technology is low compared to the demand to technologies to combat pollution</subfield>
