<subfield code="a">This paper presents an applications of Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and data to a comparative study of a sample interstate highway route on 170 across the state of Missouri. Accident dose risks were calculated on the basis of two population models: population density within 1/2 mile of the route centerline for each kilometer of the route, and population density specific to each of 18 dispersion isopleths at 29 potential accident sites along four random wind directions. The two sets of dose risks were compared to ascertain the accuracy of the original, simplified model for calculation of total accident risk</subfield>
