<subfield code="a">The important new finding in this study is that endurance training at either sea level or simulated altitude can increase oxygen uptake and ventilation during maximal exercise by approximately 13% without an effect on maximal inspiratory pressure or inspiratory muscle fatigue. Conversely after selcective training an approximately 30% increase in maximal inspiratory pressure has no effect on maximal oxygen uptake or exercise capacity</subfield>
