Sumario: The effects of occupational exposure to sodium hydroxide by inhalation have never been described. The present article reports a patient in whom prolonged and massive inhalation of NaOH mists in the workplace apparently resulted in severe obstructive airway disease with significant air trapping. Possible mechanisms are discussed
