Sumario: On 12 May 1986 the European Community adopted a Directive relating to workplace noise, which requires Member States to have national regulations with respect to occupational noise by 1 January 1990. As Mr Acton explained, these regulations would have special effects on the ceramic industry, and to begin with, therefore, the possible implications were outlined. In particular, as he interpreted it, with respect to noise it would impose on the industry duties not incorporated in the 1972 Code of Practice that it would supersede
