Sumario: The current research contains two parts: a report of the objective (acoustic) measurements of the auditory alarms, ambient noise, and equipment noise in the operating rooms and in the intensive care unit a 214-bed Canadian teaching hospital and the report of the subjective testing of personnel responsible for monitoring the alarms in this hospital. The purpose of performing objective measurements in the current study was to determine whether or not the alarms are audible
