While this question seems simple, the answer to it is quite complex. Air-purifying respirators and their associated organic vapor cartridges come in various designs and sizes. There are hundreds of thousands of organic compounds known, many of which are volatile enough and toxic enough to pose an inhalation hazard. The work practices and environmental conditions under which these compounds are used also can vary widely. This paper presents one step in a program to provide a useful model for service-life prediction, even for compounds and use situations for which no data are available
