The control of the Major Accident Hazars Regulations 1999 (COMAH) have been in force for one year, having come into effect on 1 April 1999. Ian Jerome explains why these Regulations came about and their requeriments. The aim of the Regulations is to prevent major accidents involving dangerous substances and limit the consequences to people and the environment of any that do occur. They place general and specific duties on companies involved in the manufacture and storage of dangerous chemicals
