<abstract>Takaful, or Islamic insurance, has shown impressive premium growth rates of about 20% in recent years. The first Takaful company was established in 1979, and by now there are over 250 globally. It has many similarities with conventional mutual insurance, although there are several important differences. Total Takaful premiums exceeded 2 billion dollars in 2005, and are expected to reach 7,4 billion dollars by 2015</abstract>
