<abstract>En este documento se analiza el impacto adverso sobre los balances contables de los bancos -con respecto a las rentabilidad, la suficiencia de capital y la calidad de los activos- de la explosión de la burbuja del precio de los activos en Japón a finales de la década de 1980. También se describen con detalle las recientes reformas bancarias adoptadas por las autoridades japonesas en un intento por mejorar la fortuna de sus bancos nativos y reforzar la economía japonesa</abstract>
