<abstract displayLabel="Summary">There is a touching stubborn optimism in the insurance industry about where the Brexit negotiations might lead, although it is rather like one of those fixed smiles that it gradually becomes harder to sustain with any degree of conviction. The insurance industry, along with the rest of the City and the financial services sector, wants a soft Brexit. It wants to retain access to the Single Market and, in particular, it wants to retain as extensive a portfolio of passporting rights as possible.</abstract>
