Though rapidly growing, the share of workers that derive the main source of their income from work intermediated through digital platforms known as primary workers is still relatively small, accounting for about 3% (8 million people)1 and 1.5% (7 million people)2 of the adult population in the U.S. and EU respectively. Digital labour platforms in these regions generate total revenues estimated at USD 35 billion and USD 15 billion, respectively,3 and total, combined gig platform worker income amounts to about USD 200 billion after commission, assuming a rate of 20%.
