Sumario: Legionnaires'disease accounts for about 2% of community acquired pneumonia in Britain. The organism responsible, Legionella pneumophila, is ubiquitous in fresh water habitats, domestic piped water and recirculating water systems. Factors favouring colonization and control measures are discussed as well as possible virulence factors that are associated with disease related strains
