Experiment 1 tests the hypothesis that integral displays will be superior to separable displays when information must be integrated. Experiment 2 tests the hypothesis that when attention must be focused, a separable display will be better than a integral display. Experiment 3 investigates how displays are tied to the operator's internal representation of tasks
