<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Synthetic pesticides have been used intensively for control of cotton pests in many countries since the end of the Second World War. Before Nicaragua's recent agroeconomic changes, large quantities of pesticides were applied to cotton fields by aerial applications. Many instances of poisonings of workers have been reported from Nicaragua and other Central American countries, particularly by the widely used cholinesterase inhibiting carbamates and organophosphate insecticides</abstract>
