Sumario: This study presents unconfounded estimates of relative risk of carpal tunnel syndrome in a general population. Of the eight risk factors identified in this study, the factors which seem to have a causal relation to carpal tunnel syndrome, based on the statistical and biologial evidence from this study and others, are the body mass index (BMI), use of power tools or machinary, and repetitive hand bending
