<subfield code="a">The authors developed an automatic method of calculating medial axis and its flexion angles for the following purposes: to decrease personal errors caused by manual operating; to improve the reproducibility of the medial axis and its flexion angles; and to save time and trouble in order to process a large amount of data. Developement of the automatic calculation method would enable over 5000 foot outlines obtained in 1987 to be analysed. The mean of the flexion angle of Japanese adults would be obtained with high reliablity from this large scale research</subfield>
