<abstract>El seguro argentino creció cuantitativamente en el número de operadores al amparo del régimen proteccionista que se instituyó en la década de los años 50 con la creación del reasegurador único obligatorio. En veinte años el número de operadores llegó a superar la cantidad de 300. En la última década la producción de primas de seguro experimentó un crecimiento del 117%. Durante la década 1989/99 les fue revocada la autorización para actuar en seguros en el país a 182 entidades.
