<abstract>Mediante el análisis de datos de Eurobarómetro, este trabajo examina los determinantes de las opiniones de los cuidadanos de la UE-15 sobre la ampliación. Aunque hay una mayoría clara a favor, se observan grandes variaciones entre países e individuos. En los países fundadores de la UE hay menos apoyo a la ampliación, y la ciudadanía cree que hay un "trade-off" entre ampliación y profundización: a diferencia del resto de la UE, los muy europeístas de estos países recelan de la entrada de nuevos miembros. Mostramos también que los países con altas tasas de inmigración tienen ciudadanos más contrarios a la ampliación</abstract>
