Impact of insurers' technology accessibility as private information on market structure / Jieyu Lin and Yan Zeng
Sumario: This paper analyzes how insurers' access to new technologies affects market share under asymmetric information. The model shows that when technology accessibility is observable, insurers always benefit from having access to the new technology. However, when accessibility is unobservable to customers, technology access may reduce market share through higher premiums and distorted customer beliefs. Customers may assume all insurers have access to the technology, underestimating competitors' costs and weakening the advantage of the technologically capable insurer. The results explain why technology adoption does not consistently translate into higher market share in insurance markets
