<abstract>El presente artículo repasa el proceso de ampliación y analiza la situación económica de los nuevos socios de la UE. Además, se centra en los efectos que esta quinta ampliación de la UE traera a las economías europeas, y en especial a la española. Se analiza también el impacto sobre dos variables reales : comercio e inversión extranjera directa, y se ofrece evidencia de la reestructuración de la actividad económica en la Europa ampliada y sus efectos sobre la economía española</abstract>
