520  ‎$a‎The article analyzes the impact of data protection regulation on the reputational risk arising from cyber incidents affecting companies in the United States and the European Union. Using event study methodologies and the calculation of cumulative abnormal returns, reputational losses are assessed before and after the introduction of regulations such as the GDPR and the SEC's disclosure guidelines. The results show a significant increase in reputational impact following regulation, particularly in Europe. The study compares operational and reputational losses, demonstrating that reputational losses are generally larger. It also examines financial determinants and the effects of cyber incidents on firms' subsequent operating performance
