<abstract displayLabel="Summary">The synopsis presented here is intended to give the reader an overview of the form that motor insurance currently takes in the most important EC member states, and also in the neighbouring countries of Austria and Switzerland (position as at January 1990). We have concentrated on the insurance of private cars and we also included some information concerning motor third party liability which is necessary to understand the usual form of motor insurance in the various countries.</abstract>
