Throughout its long history, Lloyd's has survived and prospered through the innovation shown by its underwriters and brokers in pioneering new insurance products. It was the first to cover satellites and space launches; it was the first to cover computers and ever computer fraud. To quote a topical example, the Gulf crisis created an increased demand for war-risk insurance to which few other markets were either willing or able to respond. Lloyd's has always been an international market and today derives some two thirds of its business from overseas. The market has never, at any time , been a disruptive element in other countries. Lloyd's underwriters prefer instead to offer many different type of insurance and thus provide a worthwhile addition to the policies which are available in the domestic market
