<abstract displayLabel="Summary">The chemical progress of silicosis in rat lungs was studied after a single intratracheal injection of 50 mg SiO2. It is concluded that the metabolism of RNA changed in experimental silicosis; mRNA increased very markedly and collagen accumulated more than total nitrogen or wet weight. A pronounced increase was observed in cholesterol and phospholipids, the peak of phospholipids preceding that of cholesterol</abstract>
