One instance of exposure isn't likely to bring on acute symptoms of illness or injury. Screening is an important part of an occupational-medicine program. In most cases, it involves evaluating a cross-section of workers to identify early signs of occupational diseases or injuries. Surveillance goes a stpe beyond screening.
