<abstract>En este trabajo se analiza cuáles son los factores necesarios para que los nuevos países miembros de la Unión Europea logren su objetivo fundamental, que no es otro que afianzar y acelerar el proceso de convergencia real. Para ello, será necesario que mantengan la estabilidad macroeconómica, avancen en las reformas estructurales y desarrollen más sus sistemas financieros. Se presta especial atención a las cuestiones monetarias y financieras que tendrán relevancia a lo largo del proceso de integración monetaria que culminará con la adopción del euro</abstract>
