Discover the potential of insurance in the real estate market

On April 12, MAPFRE Economics presented the report "Mercados inmobiliarios y sector asegurador". An analysis of the relationship between the two sectors and provides information on the most relevant indicators of the real estate market that influence the development of insurance activity.

The real estate market and insurance are closely related, as insurance is an important part of real estate investment protection, risk reduction and real estate financing.

The study focuses on the residential real estate market, highlighting the following indicators: housing stock, new residential construction, mortgage balance and new mortgages taken out, as well as reverse mortgages.

In addition, the report measures the potential of real estate activity for the insurance sector in 43 countries. To this end, the MAPFRE Economics Research Department has created two innovative indicators:

- the Real Estate Potential Indicator (IPI), which focuses on the economic and demographic factors that explain the dynamism of real estate activity; and

- the Real Estate Potential Indicator for the Insurance Sector (IPIA), which aims to assess the relative capacity of the insurance sector to transform the momentum of the real estate market into new insurance demand.

Do you want to know the countries with the highest insurance potential?

The highest level of potential corresponds to India, followed by the Philippines and China, with Canada and Turkey also standing out. At the bottom of the ranking are Japan, Romania, Greece, Italy, Finland and South Africa. This ranking reflects the extent to which each of the countries analyzed could be able to take advantage of the potential of their real estate markets in the development of new insurance business.
