<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Agroenergy is the word on everyone's lips. In 2006 it was heard in conversations, congresses, seminars, and even election campaign speeches in October in Brazil, accompanied by the phrase, "I promise." In this edition, the Agrianual Yearbook analyses this promise - not by the candidates, but of agroenergy itself, which has more of a chance of coming about. Brazil has an extraordinary competitive edge in the production of such fuels, but it also suffers from a shocking lack of transport and storage infrastructure, which ends many projects. The green fuel promise also depends on the maintenance of high oil prices, as it was not only due to productivity gains that ethanol became competitive. The stratospherically high price of 'black gold' has helped ethanol become feasible. In this edition of the Agrianual Yearbook, articles will tackle the technical aspects of production and the market outlook for sugarcane and for oilseeds.</abstract>
