<abstract displayLabel="Summary">La donación y el mecenazgo han sido a lo largo de la historia uno de los principales medios para financiar todo tipo proyectos, guerras y expediciones. A lo largo de los últimos años, en el sistema capitalista occidental, el gran potencial de la donación y el mecenazgo han sido profundamente infravalorados. Sin embargo, en la actualidad, proyectos de gran envergadura financiados mediante dichas fuentes han empezado a reaparecer. Entre éstos, se halla el mayor y más ambicioso proyecto cultural de la historia moderna: Wikipedia. Después de un análisis detallado sobre el estado actual del uso de la donación y el "crowdfunding" como métodos alternativos de financiación, el presente artículo analizará el modelo de captación de fondos utilizado por Wikipedia.El análisis realizado nos permitirá comprender el funcionamiento, en términos financieros, de las empresas pertenecientes a la conocida como Economía de Internet</abstract>
