<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Changing demographics means that today's pension schemes are no longer sustainable. Pension providers should take a fresh perspective on the opportunities in restructuring their programmes and encourage the public to take more responsibility for their retirement. There is an urgent need to rethink the current pension systems, which were conceived years ago based on an estimate of 12 years of life after retirement.</abstract>
