<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Ongoing changes in healthcare delivery, the migration of private practice physicians to large physician networks and hospitals, M&M among physician groups and hospital systems, emerging issues such as the opioid epidemic in the United States, uncertainty about health insurance reform, and challenges to tort reform are the factors that will continue to significantly pressure the traditional medical professional liability (MPL) insurers in 2018. For the most part, MPL insurers have done a pretty good job a managing through some of the difficult terrain, and some are determined to stay the course. But the various pressures, as well as other quandaries are leading companies to either adapt or run the risk of losing their member physicians. At the same time, MPL insurers, which have significant capital bases with which to operate, are able to give up some profitability and provide generous incentives to their members to hold onto market share</abstract>
