Credit crunch and insurance consumption: the aftermath of the subprime mortgage crisis

<dc:description xml:lang="es">Sumario: Despite the severe losses in the insurance market during and after the 2007 subprime mortgage crisis and the following recession, very little attention has been paid to investigating how insurance purchases are affected. Using cross-state panel data on private auto insurance premiums during and after the crisis, which was triggered by a collapse in house prices, we conducted a statelevel investigation of how the sharp drop in house prices and subsequent contraction in auto loans were associated with declines in auto insurance purchases.</dc:description>
