<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Energy efficiency is "the first fuel": it is key for costeffective energy transitions and the one energy resource that all countries possess in abundance. Strong energy efficiency policies are vital to achieving key energy-policy goals, and the so-called "multiple benefits" of energy efficiency, such as reducing energy bills, addressing climate change and air pollution, improving energy security, and increasing energy access. Still, global policy coverage (32%) leaves many opportunities untapped and could be scaled up.
This report draws on previous editions of the Energy efficiency indicators - Highlights, providing an updated selection of data, collected by the IEA from member countries since 2009. Based on such data, this chapter shows historical trends of energy use and an overview of the final energy-consuming sectors</abstract>
