<abstract displayLabel="Summary">In 2019, excessive moisture conditions throughout the country drove a record number of prevented plant claims, following generally favorable conditions in 2018, as frost and hail exacerbated farmers' losses. Prevented planting occurs when cold temperatures or excessive rain prevents farmers from planting at all or until after a designated late planting period. These difficult conditions led to the worst aggregate underwriting results for crop insurers in the past decade.</abstract>
