520  ‎$a‎his study attempts to delve into the characteristics of almost zero cities, defined as those with a serious or fatal accident rate lower than that of the Swedish city of Stockholm, chosen as a reference in the matter. And, secondly, it also tries to understand how the efforts in recent decades of some Spanish cities to advance the sustainability of urban mobility affect road safety. One of the main conclusions of this work is that the relationship between sustainability and serious and fatal accidents is not always direct. In other words, there is the paradox that the cities that are a reference in sustainable mobility are not necessarily the ones with the lowest rates of serious injuries and deaths, although, yes, they have managed to reduce the number of deaths between 1999 and 2019 somewhat more than the rest of the cities of this discovery is that the risk occurs in the fissures of the system
