This study examines how informal parental caregiving affects the employment of Japanese adults aged 60 to 70 and whether firm size at age 59 moderates this relationship. Using longitudinal data, the study finds that caregiving reduces the probability of employment, particularly among women, without significantly affecting hours worked. Among men, the negative impact is greater for those who worked in small and medium-sized enterprises before age 60, while it is smaller for those coming from large firms. These findings suggest that firm size prior to age 60 shapes later-life employment trajectories and influences individuals' capacity to cope with unexpected events such as informal caregiving
