Sumario: The penetration value experienced by a respirator wearer is difined as the contaminant concentration inside the respirator divided by the contaminant concentratin in the breathing zone outside the respirator. This article synthesizes the beta distribution, as applied to average penetration values among a respirator-wearing population, and the poisson distribution, as applied to an individual's infection risk, to describe the population risk of tuberculosis infection
