<abstract displayLabel="Summary">El sector asegurador se enfrenta a una importante reestructuración en toda Europa. A lo largo del artículo se analizan las condiciones en que tradicionalmente ha vivido, las transformaciones que se están produciendo en estos momentos impulsadas por el cambio de normativa europea para la consecución del mercado único. Entre estos movimientos se mencionan la desaparición de las tradicionales barreras entre la banca y el seguro y la agresividad desatada entre las grandes y medianas empresas europeas dentro y fuera de sus propias fronteras con el fín de mantener y/o ampliar su cuota de mercado. Por último, se analizan las perspectivas del sector para el próximo quinquenio partiendo de un estudio realizado por Arthur Andersen. De aquí se infiere la necesidad en que se encuentran las aseguradoras de adaptarse al cambio estructural haciendo esfuerzos en mejorar la calidad de servicio, considerada como la estrategia más importante para mantener una ventaja competitiva.
