<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Los grupos aseguradores europeos han puesto sus ojos en Latinoamérica atraídos por el gran potencial que se abre en numerosos mercados. Según cifras aportadas por MAPFRE Internacional, el seguro europeo obtuvo en la zona un volumen de negocio de 2.748 millones dólares, en 1996, lo que representa el 9% del mercado. De este porcentaje, aproximadamente, un 3% está en manos del grupo español. Los bancos de nuestro país tampoco han querido perderse un trozo del "pastel" latinoamericano, potenciando su presencia en la zona, a través de nuevos acuerdos y adquisiciones.
