<abstract displayLabel="Summary">Según los expertos el problema de la seguridad peatonal se debe a la falta casi universal de conocimiento, la cual varía desde la planificación vial básica y los asuntos relacionados con el uso de la tierra, hasta las aplicaciones específicas de ingeniería. La educación inadecuada que las personas reciben sobre el doble papel que desempeñan (como peatones y como conductores de vehículos) también constituye una preocupación grave. El problema se complica aún más por la aplicación limitada de las leyes existentes promulagadas para proteger a los peatones</abstract>
