<abstract>A flea collar trial in Shropshire aimed at preventing thunder flies from triggering false alarms has been hailed an owerwhelming success. A trial, launched by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service in 2003, has shown that the chemical used in pet flea collars can repel thrips from smoke detectors, dramatically reducing the number of false alarms caused by such flies</abstract>
